Unrecognised charges and fraud from overseas

Chase's fraud pages list one outside-US number for personal checking, savings and debit cards. It is the number in this post.

NumberHoursCost
+1 713 262 3300Monday to Friday, 8am to midnight ET. Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 6pm ET$0.02 / minute
  1. Report the charge in the Chase Mobile app first. Chase's fraud page says you can report a charge you do not recognise in the app. This avoids the phone menu and the cost of an international call.
  2. If you cannot use the app, call +1 713 262 3300. Chase lists this number under "outside the U.S." for fraud on personal checking, savings and debit cards.
  3. Ask for a relay operator if you need one. Chase says it accepts operator relay calls on these lines.
  4. Calling from a mobile, public phone or hotel room? Chase's pages do not say what the call costs from abroad. Extra charges may be set by your phone or hotel, not by Chase or 002call.

Hours and time zone

The hours are in Eastern Time (ET). Chase's fraud pages list Monday to Friday from 8am to midnight ET, and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 6pm ET. Convert these hours to your local time before you dial, since the time difference can move the window to a different part of your day.

Chase's contact page describes the outside-US number as an automated service that runs 24 hours a day. The hours above are the ones Chase gives on its fraud pages for fraud reports.

Cards used without permission

Chase's card pages list toll-free numbers for reporting a debit or credit card used without permission. Those lines are not covered here. Chase says to call right away in that case, so use the app or the line above, whichever you can reach first.

If you need a new card, Chase says a replacement arrives within 5 to 7 business days. If it has not arrived after 7 business days, sign in, choose "Didn't receive card" under "Reason", and follow the instructions.

Before you call

  • The dates, times and account numbers of the charges you are reporting. Chase's fraud page asks for these details when reporting to police, and they help any fraud call.
  • The name and last digits of the account the charge came from.
  • Your location and the time you noticed the charge, so you can say when it happened.
  • Whether you are calling from a mobile, a hotel room or a public phone.

Rates and what to expect

Call +1 713 262 3300 from your browser for a flat $0.02 per minute.

002call sends your call over the internet, so it skips the international call charges your carrier and hotel phone would add. There is no subscription, and you pay only for the minutes you use. If you are abroad, Wi-Fi avoids mobile data charges.

Breakdown of Providers

Calls to a US bank from overseas can cost more than expected, especially when you are kept on hold.

  • Carrier roaming: $0.50 - $2.00 / min, depending on the carrier, plus monthly and hidden charges.
  • Hotel room phones: hotels often add their own administrative markups to international calls.
  • 002call: a flat $0.02 per minute, with no hotel markup.

Why 002call is the smart way to call

Roaming and hotel markups are hard to work out in advance. 002call gives you one flat rate that you can see before you dial. Start from 002call to see the rate first.
