What matters in a replacement
Simple, pay as you go pricing, at an affordable rate
Judge a Skype replacement on three things: is it affordable, does it avoid subscriptions, and is the call quality good?
No download
Call directly from a modern browser. There is no large desktop app to install, update, or troubleshoot.
Pay per minute
Add credit when you need it and pay for connected minutes. There is no monthly plan, contract, or connection fee.
Credit never expires
Calling credit does not expire, so you can top up for a trip or a few important calls without racing a deadline.
A practical switch checklist
Three things to check before you switch
You do not need another feature-heavy app. Check the countries you will call, the price you will pay, and test the call quality.
Step 01
Check your usual destinations
Start with the countries and number types you call most. 002Call supports landlines and mobiles in 190+ countries.
Step 02
Look at the live rate
Compare the rate for your destination before you add credit. The dialer confirms the exact price for the number you enter.
Step 03
Make a real test call
Use your own browser and connection for a short call. You will get a much better sense of clarity and delay than a feature checklist can provide.

A Skype alternative for everyone
For family calls
Reach relatives on a regular landline or mobile without smartphones or a reliable internet connection. You dial their number; they answer as usual.
For travel
When you're abroad and need to make a quick call to a bank, airline, or office back home, top up before you travel to avoid expensive roaming charges. All you need is an internet connection.
For businesses
Reach customers overseas without paying for an expensive per seat plan from traditional voip service providers. Pay for the minutes you use at wholesale rates instead of adding another subscription.

Common questions
Moving on from Skype
What is the best Skype alternative for international calls?
If you used Skype credit to call landlines and mobiles abroad, the closest replacement is a pay-as-you-go service that calls regular phone numbers. 002Call works in your browser like Skype did on the web, with no subscription and credit that never expires.
What happened to Skype?
Microsoft discontinued Skype in May 2025 and directed users toward Microsoft Teams. Teams is useful for collaboration, but it is not a direct replacement for quick pay-as-you-go calls to landlines and mobiles.
Is 002Call a replacement for Skype video calls?
002Call focuses on affordable voice calls to regular phone numbers. For video meetings, use a dedicated video service such as Google Meet, Zoom, or WhatsApp alongside 002Call.
Are there apps like Skype for calling phone numbers?
Yes. Google Voice, Viber Out, and Rebtel all call landlines and mobiles, but each needs its own app and account. 002Call needs no app at all: it runs in any modern browser on a computer or phone.
How much does 002Call cost?
Rates start at $0.02 per minute, depending on the destination and number type. There is no monthly subscription, and you can check the applicable rate before calling.
