Call Forwarding Codes: How to Check, Turn On and Turn Off Forwarding
Call forwarding sends your incoming calls to another number. You can set it with a short code you dial on your phone, or in your phone's settings. This page lists the codes, how to check whether forwarding is on, and how to turn it off.
Standard Call Forwarding Codes
Most mobile networks use the same code pattern. Each code has a service number that says which type of forwarding it controls.
| Type | Code | Activate | Deactivate | Check status | Erase |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unconditional (all calls) | 21 | *21*number# | #21# | *#21# | ##21# |
| When busy | 67 | *67*number# | #67# | *#67# | ##67# |
| When you don't answer | 61 | *61*number# | #61# | *#61# | ##61# |
| When unreachable (no signal, off) | 62 | *62*number# | #62# | *#62# | ##62# |
To activate, replace number with the full phone number, including the country code. Press call after each code.
Deactivating keeps the number saved on the network. Erasing turns forwarding off and deletes the saved number.
How to Check If Your Calls Are Forwarded
Dial the status code for each type you want to check:
*#21#for all calls*#67#for calls when your line is busy*#61#for calls you don't answer*#62#for calls when your phone is off or out of signal
The network replies with the status of that type.
How to Turn Forwarding Off
With a code: Dial ##21# to erase unconditional forwarding. For the other types, use the erase code from the table above.
On iPhone: Open Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Forwarding and switch it off. Turning it off does not tell the number that was getting your calls.
On Android: Open the Phone app and look for call forwarding in its settings. The menu names and paths change between phone makers and carriers, so check your phone's own menu.
If you don't see the option on your iPhone, call forwarding is not available on that line. Your carrier can check it for you.
Carrier Codes in the US
Some US carriers use their own codes. Verizon is one example:
*72followed by the 10-digit number turns on forwarding for all calls.*73turns it off.*71followed by the 10-digit number forwards only calls you don't answer.
Verizon's support page also says you can't set up forwarding outside Verizon coverage or while travelling abroad, and the destination must be a US number. If a code doesn't work, your carrier's app or account website can show and change forwarding.
Call Forwarding Scams
A scammer may call or message you and ask you to dial a code that starts with * and includes a phone number. Their number then receives your calls. That can include the one-time codes that banks and apps send you by phone.
Never dial a code someone gives you
If someone asks you to dial a forwarding code, hang up. Don't dial it, even if they say it's from your carrier or the police.
Signs that forwarding may have been set on your line:
- People say they called you, but your phone didn't ring.
- You get login alerts or verification codes you didn't ask for.
To check and clear it, use the status codes above, then erase forwarding with ##21# or the settings on your phone. Then call your carrier to confirm it's off.
