Your phone is dead, out of credit, or stuck on a foreign SIM. Your laptop is right there. With 002call you can call any mobile or landline number straight from your computer's browser, and the person you call answers on their normal phone.

What you need

  • A computer with a browser. Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, on Windows, Mac, Linux or a Chromebook.
  • A microphone and speakers. The built-in ones on a laptop work. A headset sounds better.
  • An internet connection. Hotel or café Wi-Fi is fine.

That's it. You don't need a phone, a SIM card or an app.

How to call from your computer

  1. Open the web dialer and create an account. Your free test call is ready to use.
  2. Enter the number with its country code, such as +1 for the US or +44 for the UK. Our dialing guides show the format for each country.
  3. Check the rate. It shows before you call.
  4. Press call and let the browser use your microphone when it asks.
  5. Add credits when you want to keep calling. You pay as you go, and credits never expire.

Why not just use a messaging app?

Video and voice apps on your computer are free, but they only reach people who have the same app. They can't ring a bank, an airline, a hotel front desk, or a relative's landline.

When it helps

  • Calling your bank from abroad. Our service number guides list the overseas lines for banks and card issuers.
  • Long calls on hold. Leave the laptop plugged in and wait on speaker, without draining your phone battery.
  • Your phone has no service. A laptop on Wi-Fi doesn't care about your SIM or roaming.
  • Work calls. Call a client or supplier on their office number while you're at your desk.

Tips for a clear call

  • Use a headset to stop echo.
  • Sit close to the Wi-Fi router, or plug in a network cable.
  • Close video streams and big downloads while you're on the call.
  • If the other person can't hear you, check the browser hasn't blocked the microphone for the site.

Frequently asked questions

Is it a real phone call? Yes. The call starts in your browser and connects to the normal phone network, so it rings on the other person's mobile or landline like any other call.

Do I need to install anything? No. It runs in the browser you already have. The first time you call, the browser asks to use your microphone.

Can I call from a Chromebook or a work laptop? Yes, as long as the browser can use the microphone. Some work laptops block microphone access, so check that first.

How much does it cost? Rates depend on the country and on whether you call a mobile or a landline. Calls to the US cost $0.02 a minute. See the rates page for every country.

Can I call emergency numbers? No. 002call doesn't support emergency calls such as 911, 112 or 999. Use a mobile or landline for those.
